After completing the initial meter accuracy study and AMI feasibility study associated with approximately 20,000 customer meters, MC Engineering was retained by the WMWD staff to evaluate alternatives for implementing the recommended AMI system that was part of the initial feasibility study. Various AMI system scenarios were refined after updating recommendations for the cost effective replacement of small meters based on useful life of existing meters from the accuracy testing. The final recommendations include an AMI pilot program coupled with installation of an initial drive-by (AMR) meter reading system. GIS mapping and knowledge of existing assets and terrain were analyzed to determine cost effective first phase AMI meter reading capabilities.
